Newport Men’s Sheds Garden Party
Our Garden Party was a resounding success. A big thankyou to the Church and all those that helped or donated plants and food to make the afternoon so memorable. A few of the many photographs taken are shown here. We were fortunate to have visits from Denis Spiller ( the National President of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland ) who planted a tree to honour the occasion and Frederick Hottinger the national lead for Men’s Sheds Cymru. As well as many potential new members, church members and local agencies, Maggie Hughes ( the Rotary District Governor ) and Eric Hewinson ( the Newport Uskmouth Rotary Club President ) also joined us.
We are now in the planning stages for our next event, a stand at the Maindee Festival in early July, so watch this space or better still come along any Thursday afternoon and join our growing membership.
Ready for Planting !
Planting has started. Our warm thanks go to Halse Nurseries, Growing Space and Anne Jackson-Bass for their marvellous plant donations. Other large plants came from Club funds. Heavy rain stopped play today ( Thurs 31st May ), so we’re going to finish the job on Sat 2nd June, doors open at 12.00. As usual all are welcome.
Our warmest thanks to the Raglan Barracks Army Cadet Force for their brilliant efforts today. A dedicated and very hard working group of young people. The site is now completely clear and ready for planting. Plants are on their way !
Our warm thanks to the generosity of Asda and their coordinator Liz Burden for their kind donation of provisions toward our forthcoming Garden Party. Liz is seen here between John Ducker, the Rotary Project Leader and Lorna Aherne, Management Committee Member.
The Cadets are coming !
We are pleased to welcome the offer of help from the Raglan Barracks Army Cadet Force ( which is part of Gwent and Powys Army Cadet Force ). 6 Cadets will be on site at Summerhill on Saturday 26th May. They will clear the site of the undergrowth and dig it over in preparation for cultivation by our Maindee Shedders.
Management Committee Holds First Meeting
The inaugural meeting of the Newport Maindee Men’s Shed Management Committee was held on the 3rd May at Summerhill.
An excellent start was made and a number important topics were discussed including: the Constitution, the initial work programme including an offer from a local Cadet unit for ground clearance, the opportunity to take part in the Maindee Festival and plans for a ‘ Garden Party ‘ to be held in early June.
